Since 1993, the German Book Information Centre (BIZ) Moscow has served as a point of contact
and a source of information as well as services for the German and Russian book industries. As a representative of the Frankfurt Book Fair, the BIZ is focused on meeting the broad variety of needs of Russian and German publishers, booksellers, librarians, translators and other related professionals.
The BIZ Moscow receives financial support from the German Federal Foreign Office and plays an important role in promoting literature in the context of foreign cultural and educational policy.
Presenting German books and supporting translations
Throughout the whole year we are determinedly working with the Frankfurt Book Fair book collections, presenting them at Russian book fairs, in libraries, universities and even museums. Thus we want to spark interest in contemporary German literature in Russia, acquaint the Russian audience with German writers and their works, support the distribution of the German language and contribute to translations of German literature.
Literary Digest
At the center of our actions is there the annually updated collection of new literary releases from Germany, which we introduce to Russian editors and all other interested persons in the form of a literary digest. Every digest is a detailed compilation of 20 to 25 books and includes a book review, a sample translation into Russian and a portrait of the author.
Attendance at book fairs and professional events in Russia
Being present at Russian book fairs with a German collective stand or an information booth, the BIZ Moscow focuses on maintaining contacts, networking and presenting new German literature. The invitation of German top-class speakers and the participation in professional seminars, round tables and workshops also contribute to mutual exchange.
Publsihers' and Editors' trips to Germany
Once a year we organize a publisher' and editors' trip to Germany, focusing on a specific topic: fiction, non-fiction, books for children and young adults etc. These trips allow our Russian participants to get to know the German literary scene and to swap ideas with their German colleagues.
Media communication To raise the Russian audience’s awareness of the German publishing industry and literary scene we are cooperating with the Russian professional journal “Book Industry” and the consumer magazine “Reading together”. These publications reach a large and active share of Russian book professionals as well as a wide audience of readers. Due to our constant presence in these magazines the BIZ Moscow is perceived as intermediary connecting the German and Russian book sectors, and as counseling and information center for German literature and the German publishing scene.
Russian literature in German translation. A book collection of the BIZ Moscow We want to show Russian publishers, that there are good prospects for their authors and titles on the European book market. We want to encourage Russian editors to present their literary treasures abroad. They contribute to the transformation of literature into a universal language, the so-called Esperanto of cultural mediation and understanding. The selection of books worth translating, the translation itself, the marketing and all activities connected to it have their own laws and deserve an extensive professional discussion.
The BIZ Moscow is your central point of contact in the Russian and German book and media industries. To meet your needs and interests, we offer you:
